Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists Strategic Plan 2018 - 2022

 

Mission Statement:

MSHP is the membership organization that works on behalf of pharmacists and pharmacy personnel who practice in hospitals and health systems, in Massachusetts.  We advocate for the improvement in medication use and enhancement of patient safety. Our advocacy efforts, publications, and educational offerings are designed to advance pharmaceutical practice in the Commonwealth, and as a result, improve patient care.

 

Vision Statement:

MSHP will be a prominent organization helping to shape optimal, safe and effective medication use in hospitals, health systems, and ambulatory care settings.

 

Strategic Priorities and Goals

Our Patients and Their Care: Advocacy and Professional Practice 

  1. Advocate for laws, regulations, policies, and standards that improve patient care and enable our members to practice at the top of their license.
  2. Continue to enhance the pharmacist role as providers of comprehensive medication management and direct patient care services in all settings. 
  3. Improve the health and well-being of patients by optimizing medication therapy outcomes and promoting safe medication use.
  4. Leverage strong sustainable relationships with regulatory bodies and healthcare stakeholder associations to expand MSHP reach, influence, and impact on behalf of our members and patients. 

Our Patients and Their Care: Practice Advancement and Workforce Development

  1. Provide programming and education that drives the advancement of pharmacy practice, workforce development, and the improvement in medication use within the Commonwealth that is consistent with ASHP. 
  2. Sustain the offerings of continuing education and training programs that are required by the Board of Pharmacy and support practice advancement for our members.   
  3. Continue to enhance efforts that increase recognition and associated value of the pharmacy technician and pharmacist role.
  4. Collaborate with members and other state affiliates to increase access to development programs for our pharmacy technicians, preceptors, pharmacy students, and pharmacists. 

Our Members: Membership Growth, Engagement and Satisfaction

  1. Create a sense of community to enhance engagement so that MSHP is the home for health system pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students.
  2. Continuously utilize membership feedback to drive priorities, membership satisfaction, and enhance services.
  3. Grow a diverse and engaged membership by anticipating the different needs of members at each spectrum of care.
  4. Support efforts to communicate and share best practices, resources, and network opportunities across the commonwealth. 

Our People and Performance: Financial Viability and Sustainability 

  1.  Increase the financial health of the organization by pursuing investment strategies, partnerships, and programming that ensures the financial viability of MSHP.
  2.  Utilize funds to support programming and member incentives that directly support our mission. 


Our People and Performance: Effective and Energized Governance  

  1. Enhance committee structure, performance metrics, and governance to better meet the needs of our members and support strategic priorities.
  2.  Leverage our management company to support the tracking of membership engagement, financial performance, and member satisfaction to demonstrate membership value. 
  3. Foster leadership continuity by identifying and developing highly engaged members. 
  4. Assess the needs and receive advisement from institutional member Directors to the Board on how to drive our mission and make MSHP their organization home.
